Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders is a third-person adventure and investigation game developed by Artefacts Studio and published by Microids. Released in 2016, it is based on Agatha Christie's 1936 novel of the same name.
Players assume the role of renowned detective Hercule Poirot. The narrative centers on a series of murders committed by an unknown assailant who signs their crimes with the moniker "ABC." The killer leaves an open railway guide, the "ABC Railway Guide," at each crime scene, escalating the challenge for Poirot.
Key features include:
- Observation: Players must meticulously examine crime scenes and interview characters to gather clues.
- Puzzles: The game incorporates a variety of logic and deduction puzzles that require players to analyze information and connect disparate pieces of evidence.
- Cognitive Maps: Poirot's "little grey cells" are represented through a cognitive map system, allowing players to visualize connections between clues and theories.
- Ego Points: Successfully solving deductions and making correct observations grants "Ego Points," which contribute to player progression and unlocking additional insights.
- Reconstructions: Players can recreate crime scenes and events to test theories and piece together the sequence of actions.
- Dialogue Choices: Interactions with non-player characters involve dialogue trees where choices can influence the information gathered.
- Faithful Adaptation: The game aims for a faithful adaptation of the original novel's plot and characterizations, offering fans of Agatha Christie a new way to experience the story.
The game presents a single-player experience with a focus on narrative progression and investigative gameplay. It utilizes a cel-shaded art style, providing a distinct visual aesthetic that complements the period setting.
