Disney Pixar Cars 2: The Video Game is a third-person racing title based on the Disney Pixar animated film, *Cars 2*. Players assume the role of various characters from the Cars universe, including Lightning McQueen and Mater, as they participate in international spy-themed missions and races.
The game features a campaign mode where players progress through missions within the C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage) training facility. These missions involve racing, combat, and stunt challenges. A multiplayer mode is available, supporting both local split-screen and online play, allowing up to four players to compete in various race types and arenas.
Gameplay mechanics include:
- Vehicle Combat: Players utilize an arsenal of gadgets and weapons, such as machine guns, rockets, and oil slicks, to incapacitate opponents and navigate challenges.
- Stunt System: Performing stunts like two-wheel driving, air tricks, and driving backward contributes to the "spy meter," which can be used to activate special abilities or gain boosts.
- Character Roster: Over 20 playable characters from the *Cars 2* film are available, each with unique attributes and unlockable customization options.
- Mission Variety: Missions include standard races, battle races, arena battles, and survival challenges, each designed to test different driving and combat skills.
- Track Locations: Tracks are inspired by international locations featured in the film, such as Tokyo, Japan; Paris, France; and London, England.
The game offers a progression system where players earn points and unlock new characters, tracks, and customization items by completing missions and achieving objectives. It is designed as an action-racing game with an emphasis on gadget-based combat and vehicle-specific abilities.
