Outbound is a first-person exploration and crafting game. Players begin in a self-built camper van, acting as a mobile base, and are tasked with upgrading it while exploring a persistent open world. The core gameplay loop involves navigating varied biomes, collecting resources, and utilizing a crafting system to improve the vehicle and personal equipment. Movement within the game world is facilitated by the camper van, which can be customized and upgraded. This includes structural modifications, utility additions, and aesthetic changes. Players are able to build extensions directly onto their vehicle, creating a dynamic and evolving mobile base. Resource gathering is integral to this process, requiring players to locate and extract materials found throughout the environment. The game world features diverse biomes, each containing distinct resources and challenges. Crafting is a key mechanic, allowing players to process raw materials into components and finished items. This system supports the creation of new vehicle parts, tools, and other essential equipment necessary for progression. Players also have the ability to build and customize small static bases at points of interest within the world, providing additional storage and crafting opportunities beyond the mobile base. Outbound emphasizes player agency in determining exploration routes and base development. The game focuses on resource management and strategic planning for expeditions into unknown territories.
