The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a survival horror game developed by KOT-GEO and published by KOT-GEO. The game is set in the 1920s and follows the protagonist, a lone investigator, as they delve into a mysterious and ancient mound. The narrative draws inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
Players navigate through a series of procedurally generated environments. Gameplay mechanics focus on exploration, resource management, and evading hostile entities. The game features a sanity system, where prolonged exposure to disturbing events and otherworldly creatures impacts the player's mental state, leading to visual and auditory hallucinations, and ultimately, permadeath. Progression involves uncovering lore through scattered documents and environmental clues, piecing together the events surrounding the mound.
Key features include:
- First-person perspective: Immersive viewpoint for exploration.
- Procedurally generated levels: Each playthrough offers a unique environment layout.
- Permadeath: Failure results in the loss of all progress.
- Sanity system: Mental state affects gameplay and perception.
- Resource management: Players must scavenge for limited supplies.
- Stealth mechanics: Avoidance of enemies is often the primary strategy.
- Lovecraftian lore: Narrative elements rooted in the Cthulhu Mythos.
- Atmospheric audio design: Emphasizes dread and tension.
The game utilizes a dark and oppressive visual style to enhance the horror atmosphere. Sound design plays a crucial role in conveying the presence of unseen threats and the deteriorating mental state of the protagonist. This product is a digital Steam key, redeemable globally (ROW).
