The Sinking City 2 is a survival horror title set in the 1920s United States, developed by Frogwares. This game shifts the setting from Oakmont to a new, isolated city, with gameplay focused on cosmic horror themes.
Players navigate an environment based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, encountering supernatural entities and an encroaching, apocalyptic flood. The narrative unfolds within a city that is progressively consumed by water, impacting both traversal and available resources.
Key gameplay mechanics include:
- Survival Horror Focus: Resource management is a core component. Players must scavenge for limited ammunition, health, and other supplies necessary for survival against various threats.
- Combat System: Confrontations with mutated creatures and otherworldly beings are integral. Combat is designed to be challenging, emphasizing strategic use of limited resources and environmental awareness.
- Environmental Storytelling: The city itself serves as a narrative device, with its architecture, decaying infrastructure, and the rising water level conveying the unfolding catastrophe and underlying lore.
- Exploration and Progression: Players explore distinct districts of the sinking city, each with its own challenges and secrets. Progression involves uncovering clues and piecing together the events leading to the city's demise.
The game utilizes Unreal Engine 5, aiming to deliver detailed environments and atmospheric effects suitable for the horror genre. The perspective is third-person, providing a wide view of the surroundings and encounters.
